The comic’s final episode of “Chelsea Lately” will air on Aug. 26. The early sendoff has been packaged as what the network is calling a “month-long” celebration featuring “special episodes” and “surprise guests.”
In March, when Handler’s agent, Irving Azoff, said she planned to leave when her contract expired, E! executives snarked that “Chelsea has nine months left on her contract and E! will not comment on the future of ‘Chelsea Lately’ at this time.”
Handler has been quite open about her her dissatisfaction with E!, poking fun at the network to almost anyone who will listen.
“They don't know what they're doing," she recently said when appearing as a guest on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM satellite radio show. “They have no ideas. It's a failure.”
“Chelsea Lately” has aired since 2007.
In a prepared statement, Handler said, “I myself am more surprised than anyone that I was able to hold down a job for seven years, and it was a fantastic seven years.
“I will always look back at my time on E! as most people look back at their time in college. I’m glad I went.”
