American Idol’s Kimberley Locke was performing on a cruise that was scheduled to be the first gay ship to visit a Muslim country, but a potentially dangerous situation prevented the ship from docking.
In an exclusive interview with RumorFix, Kimberley says, “Morocco was the one stop that everyone was looking forward to — I wanted to go shopping.”
But, the RSVP cruise ship operated by Holland America got word that they would be greeted by potentially violent protestors. RSVP decided to bypass that port and continue on to Malaga, Spain.
“They made the right decision for the safety of all us,” Kimberley says.
Morocco is a predominantly Muslim country and gay sex is illegal, but rarely enforced.
When the cruise was organized RSVP obviously felt that history could be made — but it was not to be.
Kimberely, who is back in LA working on a new music video for “Finally Free,” says “We didn’t go this time – but I do believe that there will be a time when we’ll look back at this and laugh.”
The 34-year-old biracial singer (her father is black, her mother is white) is a strong advocate for gay rights because, “I know what it feels like to only be looked at on the outside and not the inside.”
