John Cusack headed to New Orleans for Lee Daniels' gritty 'Paperboy'

According to the trade publication Daily Variety, Cusack will play a man convicted -- possibly wrongly -- of killing a sheriff in the gritty, Florida-set crime drama, based on the 1995 novel by Pete Dexter.
Zac Efron will play a college dropout who teams up with his hotshot reporter brother to to investigate a possible miscarriage in the case. Matthew McConaughey and Nicole Kidman are also both "in advanced negotiations for key roles," according to the Variety report.
Cusack replaces Tobey Maguire, who dropped out of the project due to scheduling conflicts. Kidman would replace Sofia Vergara, who dropped out for the same reason.
The indie drama -- which is Daniels' first film since his Oscar-nominated "Precious" in 2009 -- begins its six-week shoot later this month.
