Benedict Cumberbatch Officiates Gay Wedding on Mediterranean Island
Fresh off an Emmy nomination for the mini-series “Parade’s End” and a breakthrough role as the villain in “Star Trek Into Darkness,” the 37-year-old British actor married a gay couple on the Spanish island of Ibiza on Saturday.
Cumberbatch, a newly ordained minister, officiated the wedding of his friends Seth Cummings and Rob Ridner, according to the a Facebook post from one of the guests.
The wedding-goer also posted several pictures of the ceremony itself, conducted atop a cliff on the grounds at the Hacienda Hotel Ibiza, overlooking a view of the Mediterranean Sea during the ceremony.
“It's a very private, lovely thing to be asked to do," Cumberbatch told Vulture last week before the ceremony. "Of course, I'm going to make a joke after it, 'I do weddings. Next will be children's parties and Bat Mitzvahs,' if it goes well.
