NEW YORK —New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees comes in as the third highest-earning athlete in 2013 according to Sports Illustrated’s annual Fortunate 50.
Brees earned $40M in salary and $7.8M in endorsements for a total of $47.8M this year– falling only behind LeBron James ($56.5M) and Floyd Mayweather ($90M).
The only other NFL player in the top 10 is Broncos QB Peyton Manning, who made a total of $31M in 2013.
With Brees’ salary dropping from $40M to a reported $15M next season, it is quite likely he will only stay on this list for a single season. Expect Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and possibly Baltimore Ravens QB Joe Flacco to take his place after signing similar structured deals one year later.
