The Casts of 'Hamilton' and 'The Color Purple' Paid Tribute to Prince Last Night

After curtain call of The Color Purple, Hudson held up her hands to stop the crowd’s applause, and then walked to the center of the stage.

“I did not expect to have to speak to you all tonight, but God has his way. As we all know, today, we lost a legend. We lost a legend who was a good friend of mine. Prince. Who was dear to all of us, am I right?” she said. “He said his music would live on, he’d live on through his music. So we want to keep him alive today.”

 Over at Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda and his cast broke into a rendition of Let’s Go Crazy, complete with some slick dance moves. Later that night, Manuel himself tweeted: “Today we laughed, we cried, we mourned, we danced. What more could we ask of that electric word, life?"
