New Orleans Chef Paul Prudhomme Dies at 75


Paul Prudhomme, the internationally known, Cajun-born chef who transformed New Orleans restaurants, the American palate and the chef profession, has died, WWLTV.com Reports He was 75.

The Opelousas-born Prudhomme became the first non-European chef of Commander's Palace in 1975 and rose to national prominence in the 1980s, after the opening of his wildly popular French Quarter restaurant K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen. A multi-faceted career as a television personality, best selling cookbook author and spice and food manufacturer followed. 


Magic Seasonings Blends, the Harahan-based company Prudhomme founded in 1983, sells Louisiana-style spice blends, smoked meats and more in more than 30 countries and all 50 states.

Prudhomme's forays outside the restaurant kitchen were virtually unheard of in his day but are now common practice in the chef field. His success brought unprecedented attention to New Orleans and its food culture.
