Musicians Macklemore and Ryan Lewis stopped by "Chelsea Lately", where they talked about their song "Same Love," which just won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Social Message Song and the fact that they are both straight.
"It was an issue that I wanted to tackle but as a straight man, I'm like what is my vantage point on this issue? I tried to write it from the perspective of a gay, bullied kid. Brought it back to the studio, Ryan heard it and was like, 'That's not your story to tell. You have a story here, talk about your experience' and I started there," says Macklemore, of the gay rights "Same Love" song.
They go on to address their sexuality --
"Regardless of what the internet thinks, yes [we are both straight]. ... If you type in Macklemore, [the first Google search choice] is 'is Macklemore gay?" says Macklemore.
Then when the audience can't believe Macklemore and Ryan Lewis met on MySpace, Mack just throws up his hands and goes, "Fine, we're gay!" (He's kidding.)
Mack also talks about how he loved the musical "Cats" growing up, which made him think he might be gay. What made him realize he's straight? "I started using my penis," he cracks.
