Andrew Garfield In Favor Of Gay Marriage

‘Spiderman’ hottie Andrew Garfield has revealed he is for gay marriage. In an interview with ‘The Times’, the actor said, “Of course I’m in favor of marriage equality. Same-sex couples should have the same rights as anybody else.”

“There is no argument against equality. How can anyone argue against compassion and understanding?” he added.

Growing up, Garfield was the skinny effeminate kid who got picked on a lot, which is a big part of his reason for wanting to take on the role of Peter Parker in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’.

Before the big screen, Garfield played a gay role on stage in the acclaimed play ‘Beautiful Thing’ back in 2005, in which he went on to win an ‘Evening Standard Award’ for his performance and … well… the rest is history.

Garfield, for his part, obviously relished the role and especially his first gay kiss.
“I feel the play is very important, and needs to be shown to people,” he explained. “It has the potential to inspire, to change peoples views of homosexuality. It’s got so much heart, it’s so positive. All the other plays about being gay seem to be about AIDS and are all quite bleak. These two boys are so innocent and pure and clueless in their experience and love. Although there are obstacles in their way, the people that they’re surrounded by are so accepting in the end, it makes for a heart-warming, positive, optimistic and happy experience for the audience.”

As for his first gay kiss, Garfield took it in his stride. “I love exploring things that are not naturally in me. It gives you a broader understanding of life. Kissing another guy was weird but fine, it’s acting isn’t it?”
