CBS Says Thanks To New Orleans For a Super Visit

"Hello friends" is how Jim Nantz opens every telecast on a CBS Sports event and that is a very appropriate phrase for how CBS feels about the people of New Orleans. You have treated us as friends, and even family, from the start. What a year we have had together, starting with the Final Four last March, followed by an outstanding week of coverage leading up to the Super Bowl.

CBS' mission from the very beginning was to show off your city during the Super Bowl in a manner never seen before. We also wanted to bring together all the assets of the CBS Corporation in a manner we have never done before. With your support and help we made Jackson Square the centerpiece of our programming across all of our divisions from news to sports to entertainment for the week leading up to the broadcast of Super Bowl XLVII from the Mercedes Benz Superdome. We hope you were as proud as we were of the way we showcased your city.

On behalf of Leslie Moonves and the entire CBS Corporation, we thank you. None of this would have been possible without the help and cooperation of all of you, starting with the mayor's office. Mayor Mitch Landrieu and his staff, especially Ryan Berni, were terrific. Doug Thornton and his team at the Mercedes Benz Superdome were extremely helpful in the operation and set-up for our pre-game and game broadcasts. Jay Cicero, with the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation, and Sam Joffray, with the Super Bowl Host Committee, helped lead us through all the necessary steps to make our Jackson Square scene work for the entire CBS Corporation. The assistance of the New Orleans Department of Parks and Parkways led by Ann McDonald also was critical to our success. The entire New Orleans City Council, the French Market Corporation and all the members of the French Quarter businesses, merchants and residents associations made us feel as though we were welcome in their home.
We thank all the citizens of New Orleans for your Southern hospitality which made New Orleans the perfect venue to host the Super Bowl. We at CBS cannot be any more appreciative for your kindness and assistance in our production of Super Bowl XLVII.
