Drew Brees Donating $1 Million to Hurricane Sandy Recovery

Drew Brees’ philanthropic nature is well-documented, and the Saints quarterback is once again stepping up to help families in need.

Brees and his wife, Brittany, will commit $1 million from their Dream Foundation to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy, Brees told CBS.

“We want to be able to give back what’s been given do us,” Brees said in a taped segment for CBS’ Person to Person, which will air on Friday evening. The $1 million donation from Brees’ foundation equals what the NFL and NFLPA contributed to relief efforts.

Brees signed with the Saints shortly after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf region and quickly became one of the faces of the recovery effort in New Orleans. The Dream Foundation also announced that it would be contributing $2 million to the New Orleans community before the Super Bowl.

“We feel so loyal and so tied to the city,” said Brees, who helped bring the Saints their first Super Bowl in 2009. “It’s a very unique place. But if you love New Orleans, it’ll love you back.”
