New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw a touchdown pass in his 48th consecutive game on Sunday, breaking Johnny Unitas' record of 47.
Brees connected with Devery Henderson on a 40-yard scoring pass with 3:58 left in the first quarter of the Saints' home matchup with the San Diego Chargers.
The moment was a rare bright spot on what has been a tough season for the Saints. CoachesSean Payton and Joe Vitt and general manager Mickey Loomis are serving one-season, six-game and eight-game suspensions, respectively, for their involvement in the team's bounty scandal. However, the NFL allowed all three to attend the game upon Brees' request.
The touchdown pass was the 11th of the season for Brees, who has 292 in his career. Unitas' record had stood since 1960.
