The mass exodus of Grey’s Anatomy cast members continues as Eric Dane announced yesterday that he will be leaving the series during the upcoming ninth season. According to People magazine, Dane released a statement saying “I am extremely grateful to everyone at Grey’s, ABC and Shondaland for the experience and memories I have had over the course of this run. It has been wonderful to work alongside and learn from a creative force such as Shonda Rhimes.”
Dane’s announcement comes on the heels of the departure of Kim Raver and on screen love interest Chyler Leigh. Unlike Leigh’s character Lexie Grey who died in the plane crash cliffhanger last season, Dane’s character Dr. Mark Sloan (aka McSteamy) is expected to survive and film a few episodes in the ninth season to close out his storyline.
