President Obama on Glee’s Darren Criss: He’s an “Outstanding Talent”

Glee lavishes him with solos, Broadway adores him, and now, even the President of the United States is singing his praises! We’d say right now is a pretty good time to be Darren Criss (Blaine).

The Glee star performed for President Obama at an LGBT fundraiser in Hollywood on June 5: a gig he landed at the last minute, after the dinner’s original performer, Pink, landed in the hospital with a severe case of stomach flu.

Taking the stage before a crowd of about 600 people, the Darren performed his original tune, “Not Alone,” Carole King’s “One Fine Day,” as well as “Something’s Coming,” and “That’s All,” E! Online reports. The President, who is in town raising funds for his re-election campaign, told the audience, “I want to also thank an outstanding talent—Darren Criss."

Glee’s Jane Lynch (Sue) and Max Adler (Karofsky) also attended the show, and a private fundraiser later that night was held at the home of creator Glee Ryan Murphy and his fiance, David Miller.

Earlier that day, Darren tweeted, “woah woah woah hold on wait a sec.... is today really about to happen?” He later followed with, “... Yeah, I guess today IS happening. Thanks for all the support, everyone!”
