According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pink was slated to perform for President Obama at an LGBT fundraiser in Los Angeles on Wednesday, June 6, but had to drop out after being hospitalized last week with a severe case of stomach flu.
With Pink too ill to perform, THR reports Darren will be stepping in to sing in her place. The Glee star tweeted about the news late on Tuesday night, announcing it with his usual brand of deadpan humor: “:) So bummed I'll have to miss my dental appointment to sing for The US President Wed night,” he wrote. “thanx @Pink for messin that up!!#greattiming”
Best excuse for missing a dental appointment ever, right? Just in case people didn’t catch on to the joke, Darren posted a more serious tweet directly afterwards to show his gratitude for being asked to perform at the event. “... But in all seriousness @Pink- what an honor! & while I'm at it, thanks for letting me sing your songs on glee :) hope we did ya justice!” he wrote.
(Now, we’re not sure what Pink thinks about Darren’s version of her party song, “Raise Your Glass,” but we happen to think it’s totally too school for cool.)
Cory Monteith (Finn) quickly tweeted his support to his Glee co-star, writing, “holy CRAP @DarrenCriss !!!!!!!!!!! thats amazing!!! no pressure lol.” Please, this is Darren Criss we’re talking about. We’re pretty sure he’s going to give a killer performance.
