The Crescent City joins world class cities on this list, like Paris, Marrakech, Rome, Istanbul, Berlin, London and Sydney.
Kelly Schulz, Vice President of Communications and Public Relations with the New Orleans Convention and Visitor's Bureau says this popularity may continue for awhile, judging by a travel conference she just attended. "I am happy to report that there was so much interest in New Orleans. We talked to so many journalists who are craving information about the city."
So Schulz says this won't be the end of it, as these international journalists plan on hitting the Big Easy and further spreading the word. "They're travel journalists, they want to come in and report on the city. These journalists come from Australia, Brazil, Singapore. Every part of the world."
You're probably not even surprised anymore to hear that New Orleans has won another award, after the city has garnered rave reviews from both the business and travel communities for the over a year now. But for the record, New Orleans also won the award for the 7th ranked domestic destination by TripAdvisors.
The Travelers' Choice Destinations awards honor top travel spots worldwide, TripAdvisor says "Based on millions of valuable reviews and opinions from TripAdvisor travelers. Award winners were determined based on the popularity of destinations, taking into account travelers' favorites and most highly rated places."
Here's how they present New Orleans, in both the domestic and international categories: "With a new mission statement, 'Soul Is Waterproof,' New Orleans is back. The city's walkable historic core, including Faubourg Marigny, the French Quarter, Warehouse and Arts District, Magazine Street, the Garden District, Audubon Park and Zoo and St. Charles Avenue, are flourishing anew and eager to welcome visitors once again. Whether for the jazz, the nightlife, the hopping gay scene, the food, the culture, or for that distinctive joie de vivre, it's time to head back to the Crescent City."
