Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw to Co-Headline Mercedes-Benz Superdome Show!

Country stars Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw will bring their co-headlining Brothers of the Sun Tour to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Aug. 3. Tickets go on sale June 9.

The New Orleans date was not included in the tour's original itinerary. As of Monday morning, it was not yet listed on Chesney’s web site, or on the Ticketmaster site.

The show was announced on video screens Sunday during the second night of the Bayou Country Superfest at LSU’s Tiger Stadium. McGraw and Chesney headlined the 2011 Bayou Country Superfest; Chesney also appeared at the inaugural Superfest in 2010.

The unveiling of the Louisiana date for their Brothers of the Sun Tour – a leading candidate to be the highest-grossing tour of the year – was likely delayed so as not to cannibalize ticket sales for this year's Superfest.

The Superdome in years past has hosted the likes of the Rolling Stones, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Tupac Shakur, Paul McCartney, Kiss and Cher, but rarely presents concerts any more other than the annual Essence Music Festival.

Country content in the Superdome is not unprecedented: George Strait’s traveling Country Music Festival drew large crowds to the Dome in 1999 and 2001.

Among the opening acts on that 1999 Strait show? A pair of ascendant stars named Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney, now returning to the Superdome 13 years later with their own stadium-sized extravaganza.

  1. I was never the biggest Tim Mcgraw fan but I wouldn't mind seeing his concert in Atlanta. That said, tickets here starts at $57 (before the inconvenience charges) so I'll be passing on that one.
