Pregnant Woman Gives Birth While On The Road!

WAXAHACHIE (Wfaa News) - A dad-to-be in Waxahachie, Texas kept one hand on the steering wheel and one on the video camera. All while his wife was giving birth. But it gets better: The baby was born in the car as it sped down the highway!

Life's journey is full of surprises, few bigger than little Willow's arrival. Not in a hospital, but on the highway with every intimate detail captured on camera.

"I didn't expect it at all. It was different," says new mother, Jennifer Russell.

The couple was racing down a lonely stretch of Highway 287 to a birthing center when little Willow arrived, almost effortlessly, just 15 minutes into a 45 minute drive.

"By the time my water broke, I pushed once and she was out. I felt pretty good and I didn't think it would happen that fast," says Jennifer.

Her husband, to his credit, was determined to capture their special moment. He kept one hand on the wheel and the other holding a camera.

"I just kept making sure the frame was good and that I was staying on the road. I'm surprised I did real well," said father, Zachary Russell.

His wife, a Mansfield elementary teacher, even unwrapped the umbilical chord from around little Willow's neck.

"I just had the baby in the car," said Jennifer.

"I went into shock immediately, of course, and called my sister, because, I said, 'I need you,'" said Nancy Moser, Willow's Grandmother.

The couple has now posted the video online, proud they can always treasure that moment and that Ford compact where Willow's life started.

"It has to be her first car, so that she can tell everyone. "Okay, I was born right there!"
