'Barefoot Bandit' Gets Seven Years

APFacebookTweetThe "Barefoot Bandit" was sentenced Friday in Washington state court to more than seven years in prison after pleading guilty to more than 30 felonies involving a one-man crime spree in which he stole boats, planes and cars.
Colton Harris-Moore, 20, escaped a juvenile home in 2008 and avoided capture for more than two years before his arrest last year in the Bahamas.
Because the prison time will run concurrently with his anticipated sentence on federal charges, Friday's daylong hearing was chiefly an opportunity for authorities to consolidate a long list of charges in three counties. It was also a chance for Harris to try to explain his infamous antics.
In a statement to the judge, Harris-Moore said his childhood was one he wouldn't wish on his "darkest enemies."
He said the thrill of flying stolen planes renewed his passion for life and will help him rehabilitate in prison.
"The euphoria of the countdown to takeoff and the realization of a dream was nearly blinding," he wrote of his first flight three years ago. "My first thought after takeoff was 'Oh my God, I'm flying.' I had waited my entire life for that moment."
He said he'll use his time behind bars to prepare for college, with hopes he'll someday earn an aeronautical engineering degree.
Judge Vickie Churchill characterized the case as "a tragedy in many ways, but it's a triumph of the human spirit in other ways." She said she believed he was genuinely remorseful and contrite.

Stephen Colbert Fires Back At Anderson Cooper
Stephen Colbert and Anderson Cooper have more beef to work out.
Cooper put Colbert on the "Ridiculist" last Wednesday. He admonished the Comedy Central host for mocking William Tapley, a religious conspiracy theorist who claims that Denver International Airport is full of phallic symbols, just this month. Cooper said Tapley was on the Ridiculist in June, and called Colbert "six months tardy to this particular phallic party."
Colbert was only too happy to respond on Tuesday night. He referred to Cooper as a "Casper-American" and said that the "Ridiculist" segment uses the font "Sans Serif whack-a-doodle."
"It was foolish of me to believe that even on my best day, I could beat Anderson Cooper to a phallus party," Colbert said. "I am sorry." He went on to apologize for touching a story that Cooper had already done, and chose to tackle one that Cooper hasn't covered yet: the phallic symbols on Cooper's CNN show. Singer Etta James Is Terminally Ill
Her doctor, Elaine James (not related to the singer), told the Riverside Press-Enterprise (in Riverside, Calif.) that the beloved "At Last" songstress' chronic leukemia was declared incurable two weeks ago.
The 73-year-old entertainer has been suffering from cancer, dementia and kidney failure.
Her doctor asked for prayers from the singer's fans.
"They know she's been sick, but not how sick," Dr. James told the Riverside Press-Enterprise, adding that Etta's communication now is limited mostly to "uh-huhs" and "nos."
Dr. James made her comments outside a Riverside, Calif. conservatorship hearing over the singer's $1 million estate. Etta's son, Donto James, wants control of his mother's assets rather than her husband, Artis Mills.
Nicole Scherzinger Held At Gunpoint In Mexico
Reports have surfaced that Nicole was held at gunpoint in Mexico by law enforcement officers! She was with choreographer Brian Friedman, driving through the mountains in Mexico to get to the set of Nicole’s new music video, ”Try with Me,” when all of a sudden, their bulletproof SUV was pulled over by some gun-toting officials.
They were surrounded by Mexican authorities, Friedman told Star. “We were held at gunpoint. People next to our cars … there were M16s and Berettas!” There was total panic, but they were let go immediately. Just doing their jobs, right? While the police do confirm that the incident went down, they’re standing by the fact that no weapons were drawn on anyone.
“Nicole cursed me with this trip,” Friedman told Star. “It was the craziest adventure ever!” That music video better be worth the trouble.

Madonna sat down for a one-hour interview with Anderson today, discussing her new film "W.E.," her upcoming performance at the Super Bowl, and in this show preview, the superstar shares her exclusive reaction to the film's two Golden Globe nominations for Original Song and Original Score.
"I am so proud of Abel Korzeniowski, who did the score of my film. It was a great way to wake up this morning," Madonna tells Anderson.

So how is the Live! With Kelly doing now that Regis Philbin is gone?
Just fine, reports USA TODAY's Gary Levin. According to the most recent ratings, for the week ending Dec. 4, the show pulled in 3.8 million viewers, which is at or slightly above what the show as getting during normal, pre-retirement Regis episodes.
But the hunt for a co-host for Ripa continues as 2012 begins.
Her husband, cutie pie Mark Consuelos, will fill on Live! With Kelly on Jan. 2, with guests Tyra Banks and newBachelor star Ben Flajnik.
On Jan. 3, Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons makes his first guest co-host appearance. William H. Macy drops by to chat.
On Jan. 4, Californication star David Duchovny returns to the guest co-host chair. Terrence Howard is one of the guests.
And closing out the week, Rob Lowe is co-host on Jan. 5 and 6, with a guest lineup that includes Glee's Darren Criss and actress Kristin Bell.

Parents Television Council Angry Over Howard Stern Joining ‘America’s Got Talent’
Now that Howard Stern is the latest addition to ‘America’s Got Talent,’ parent organizations are up in arms, saying that the shock jock’s inclusion is an “act of desperation for a flailing network.”
The Parents Television Council has released a statement to TMZ … claiming primetime TV is no place for Howard Stern … “a performer who is synonymous with shock, profanity and obscenity.”
The PTC says, “The once-proud broadcast network has lost its way and has made it clear it holds no concern whatsoever for children and families.”
The group adds, “Not coincidentally, in just over three weeks the network will be standing before the United States Supreme Court arguing for the right to use the F-word at any time of the day, even in front of children.”

Woman Caught Making Meth Inside Walmart
“When firefighters were on the scene she made statements to them that is what she was doing, she was attempting to obtain these chemicals and was in the process of trying to manufacture meth. However, she said she was not very good at it,” says Shelby.
A responding officer didn’t know the bottle was active. As he was discarding the bottle the chemicals burned through the bottle and through his gloves.
He was treated for chemical burns on his hands and is okay.
