Anyone who is a fan of the Saints is well aware of what quarterback Drew Brees has done for this team.
Brees has been part of one of the best offenses in the NFL over the past few seasons and is the main cog in the wheel for the success that the Saints have had on the offensive side of the ball. Brees instantly started to turn the Saints around after his arrival in New Orleans and in time he would help lead the team to a Super Bowl, the first in the franchise’s history.
Along with that, Brees has been the face of a town that has seen a lot of tragedy and rebuilding over the course of the past few years, and he has been there to help out the people of New Orleans. The people of that great city have come to rely upon the Saints as a symbol of hope. Their run to the Super Bowl in 2009-10 was something that ended up bringing the city together and gave them the hope that they so desperately needed.
Not only a leader in the community, Brees is a big-time leader in the locker room and on the field, and he is a real inspiration to his team as the game goes from start to finish. You see him in the center of the huddles as the players get fired up and ready on the field before or during the game. You see him talking to every single player no matter what side of the ball they are on. He’s definitely a motivator as well as a real team player.
The relationship that Brees has with his head coach, Sean Payton, is a good one and one that has helped this team become a success. Right from the time that Brees first came to the city of New Orleans, Payton and Brees have gotten along well and that has made a big difference in the way that the offense and the team operate.
Is Brees the best quarterback in the NFL? No, he probably isn’t, but he’s certainly one of the best. He puts up great stats, leads his team to victories and doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. But one thing he is lacking is the winning pedigree that Tom Brady has. Sure, Brees has won a Super Bowl and a bunch of games, but he needs to play in and win a couple more of those Super Bowls to get him up to Brady’s level.
But you can’t deny what Brees has done to help the image of himself, the team and the NFL. He is part of several public service announcements and has a nice foundation named The Brees Dream Foundation. The foundation seeks to help fund research to fight cancer and help give children with cancer opportunities to have a chance at fighting their disease. Definitely a worthy cause.
So Brees means so much to his community, his fans and his team.
Brees will continue to play well and help lead his team to bigger and better things, possibly another Super Bowl victory. Coming from a fan of another team with a quarterback (Jay Cutler) that isn’t as good as Brees is, it’s refreshing to see someone like Brees behind center. He’s truly one of the good guys in the league.
