Adam Lambert Enlists Nile Rodgers for New Album

Nile Rodgers is everywhere these days, from your local bookstore, where his just-released memoir, Le Freak: An Upside Down Story of Family, Disco, and Destiny, is a hot item, to the New York Times, to a New York City studio where he and Adam Lambert are finding their groove.

The two have been trading tweets for days and now comes video of the American Idol alum and the guitar great and super-producer working out a riff on a track possibly destined for Lambert’s forthcoming second album -- albeit muted so as to “protect the integrity of the song”

But even if we don’t know what this enthusiastic jam sounds like, one thing we can deduce is that a Rodgers-Lambert collaboration has the makings of a special pairing. After all, Rodgers has produced some of the most seminal records of the 1970s and 1980s, including Diana Ross’ Diana, Madonna’s Like A Virgin, and Let’s Dance by David Bowie, who is among Lambert’s own idols.

Indeed, Rodgers himself tweeted, “I really wouldn't say it if it weren't true-Working w Adam Lambert was one of the most organically perfect jams I've had since Bowie.” Naturally, Lambert promptly retweeted the message and sentiment, writing, “what an amazing day.”

With his own band Chic, Rodgers brought the disco hit “Le Freak” to the world, and later helped Sister Sledge do the same with “We Are Family” and Diana Ross with “I’m Coming Out,” a song Lambert can most certainly get behind. No doubt the two had plenty to gab about, what with Rodgers’ stupefying tales of eighties excess, skillfully chronicled in his new book. He is currently battling prostate cancer but remains incredibly active, as his blog shows.
