Apparently New Orleans Saints fans have comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to thank for the team’s 40-20 walloping of the Oakland Raiders Sunday night.
“The (Saints) won! I’m taking full credit,” the Metairie-born DeGeneres boasted via Twitter after the preseason match-up.
Two days earlier, on Friday afternoon, DeGeneres had surprised the team at training camp in Oxnard, Calif. With a crew from “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in tow — and dressed in a vintage football uniform that NFL.com blogger Adam Rank pointed out could have belonged to Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame wide receiverDon Hutson, circa 1930s — DeGeneres huddled with quarterback Drew Brees to call some of her own plays, and did a little passing as well.
On Twitter Friday, DeGeneres posted a picture of her running a play with Brees and other team members along with this message: “Who dat? It’s me! Getting the (Saints) ready. That’s Drew Brees in red. I’m wearing the stylish helmet.”
The comedian, a vocal Saints supporter, will air the fun footage from Saints camp during the week of Sept. 12, when her syndicated talk show returns for its ninth season.
