The plates went on sale Dec. 1. In the first two months, 7,037 special Super Bowl tags had been purchased.
Michelle Rayburn, chief spokeswoman for the motor vehicles office, said that the sale of almost 13,000 special tags in an eight-month period shows that the plate is still a hot commodity.
"We are still selling them," she said. "It has gone very well. It has been a very good seller."
The state Legislature last year passed House Bill 1165 by Rep. Jeff Arnold, D-Algiers, but the final design of the tag took months because state officials, the Saints organization and the National Football League had to approve it. The tag design incorporates the Saints black and gold colors and fleur de lis, and the NFL's Super Bowl XLIV logo.
